Dalla Rosa Alda in the tiny village of San Giorgio di Valpolicella near Verona has a wine list dating to 1959 with some outstanding Amarones and Valpolicellas. Splendid traditional cuisine including tagliatelle embogoné with its distinctive red bean sauce.

Ca' Derton in Piazza d'Annunzio, Asolo, offers spectacular local dishes including bigoli in duck sauce and meticulously prepared baccala.

Roberto Cavalli's Caffe Giacosa in Florence remains perfect for a romantic and elegant high tea.

For aperitifs in Verona visit Caffè Filippini in Piazza Erbe.

The Vuda Bar in the Hotel Homs in Rome is a very agreeable watering hole, close to the Spanish Steps, an excellent place for Champagne breakfast.

The Blue Bar at the Excelsior, Venice, offers a perfect combination of romance, intimacy and attentive service.

Also in Venice try Al Bottegon (Cantina Di Vini Già Schiavi) in San Trovaso - not a romantic venue but great fun and perfect for groups of friends.
